What would you do if you had a million dollars?

Deep question. You know I like asking the deep ones. What would you do? It's a lot of money and you could do a lot with it. Would you buy your dream house, dream car? Would you donate it all to charity (ha)? Would you use it to start your own business? Or invest in a friends? What would you do? Unlike the other one I'll tell you upfront with this one because this is one I've been contemplating for a long time. Some of you all know about leveraging. Say as if you want to get a loan. You can get a million dollar loan if you put up 100,000 as collateral. I would do that ten times thus giving me 10 million to use. Then i would go around town looking for he cheapest property in the black neighborhoods and i would buy the biggest cheapest buildings i could find and make them community educational centers where i show poor people how to make money easily off the Internet in real estate, investing etc. I would also have classes on how to be a good parent, how to heal yourself of incurable diseases and of course how to maintain a great relationship. I would also make the students pay fees once they start making money so that we could always have extra capital to expand into different areas all over the country. As the money grew and as i became friends with other wealthy investors I would duplicate this process in any major city where black people are and i would add on banks, credit unions, investment clubs, farm land, manufacturing plants, livestock, distribution centers with trucks and warehouses and centralize all of these resources under the umbrella of my organization then i would just keep expanding and continue helping people to get out of poverty. It's a dream but it's definitely possible.

So what would you do? Let me know.

stop settling for less in your relationships. you have the power to change your partner for the better. if you have an open mind don't be afraid to click here to learn more.

you've really thought this out...you definately deserve the money, hope it comes pouring down on you. maybe if there were more people with such dreams the world would be a better place.

so, if i got the money, theres giving my tites, which is a must, giving back to God always pays back in more ways than we can imagine.

then investment, trust me in the nigerian capital market one million would yield you a two hundred percent interest within a month...talk more of months, i certainly wouldnt need the loans. i'll leave a bit in to work for me in the market, invest in real estate and of course my life long dream of starting up an NGO would be funded.
plus all the shopping there is to get out of this and holiday trips and...
life definately would feel good.

we really need to discuss investment in the nigerian economy because any investor with some sense is really looking at some of the emerging markets that are booming in the world and are making people fabulously wealthy

two hundred percent in a month is unthinkable

but you know there was a guy who made one billion dollars in some market in a single day

you really are serving a public service for your country

you should be proud of yourself

rock on my nigerian sister lol

oh yeah and what's an NGO

money ain't everything.. But it sure can get you somewhere....

Well i'm not surprised by your post... you already mention something like that...

I wouldn't even go shopping... or buy a car... those aren't ish.. but when you put it into something productive where you can help others.. thats when its real. I'd say i'd have to give back to the hard of hearing organization.. I once felt i wanted to work with deaf children and to set up my own place, fix the loopholes and what i felt i needed growing up to build the perfect community spot....

Other then that I don't really know... hope to do BIG things with it...

Like FQ, I'd start with tithing, and then donate say 5% to the Real Woman Charity then I would Pay off my bank debts.
I doubt 1M dollars is enough for me to quit my job tho… so I wont quit not unless I was unhappy there.
However I would invest 20% of the money in the insurance and banking sector then buy a house.
What ever is left would be spent on little nice things like a vacation, a car….spend some on my up coming wedding…
Yeah, I would certainly move my parents to a new neighborhood and get them a maid.

I would hope to find myself in HAITI with those who could help educate and build that country into the place of beauty that it once was- the agriculture that made that country so glorious has been overlooked and people are living in some of the most amazing conditions; as tho life in that manner is appropriate.

Don't get it twisted- I appreciate no air conditioning, walking to the market to buy fresh this or that in the hot sun, riding on a bumpy road til i've reached the most beautiful beach i've ever seen in my natural born life

but i wish it were so- with a gov that looked out for its people, and i wish it were so with an organized fruitful agricultural export system... cause that country has some serious assests locked away in all of that distress

I would a least hope to get the ball rolling

wanna help...lol

What would I do if I were blessed with one million dollars?

First, I would give thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and God my Heavenly Father. I would seek out God’s plan for what he would have me to do with this money because I know this money was given to me for a purpose. I would also search the scriptures and seek counsel from others (one person I would definitely e-mail is you JT since you are well versed in investments and pick your brain).

Then I would go on a fast and prayer along with mediation for at least three days, maybe 40 days depending how long it takes me to receive my answer.

Once I receive my answer then I would proceed about doing my Father’s business.

an ngo is non govermental organisation..trying to go back to school, study law or human/women rights and kick some arse that go after the ladies here. we've got some cases of abuse in the country that are so blended with traditions its seen as acceptable which is toatally nuts.

and, believe me..the nigerian economy is more than a money making miracle..two hundred percent is like so doable, i've seen it happen. i see it happen evrey day. and its all clean and so fresh. no hanky pankies.lol

Oh wow, you've got the vision, family! That sounds great.

I'd probably not do that.I would probably invest in something... become the wizard of wall street and make my money like that. I'd probably use the money that I've earned to help children in the Philadelphia school district get better books, including black history books. If the district doesn't want me to involve myself in matters, then I'd probably buy a building and make the books accessible to students who do want to learn outside of school. I'm not completely sure how I could help get younger guys off of the streets, but I'd try to find a way to do that as well. That question requires alot of thought, though.

You and I are going to get along fine. We think alike. I'm all for empowering the people, but you best believe I'd have some things to make life more comfortable, because when you are in the trenches, you need a place of refreshing.

What a wonderful post. If I had a million dollars with which I could do whatever I wanted, I would invest the majority of it and then set up numerous scholarships for disadvantaged students. I hope to be able to do this someday.

I'm sure I spend some of it. On what? I have no idea. I would def. invest, buy a house, I guess after 10 yrs of owning a house the market doubles your money. nice.

@eb... your mom would appreciate it

i'm sure she appreciates all you do for her

@dyme... doing for others is so much better than material things and it gives you so much satisfation

@maple... in actuality 1 million should be enuf to quit but we spend like crazy so i doubt that lol

@desy... i think your dreams are very real

haiti i'm sure has a lot of resources that are not being tapped into particularly the people

i am a firm believer that it all starts with education

if we can teach them how to use the power that they have they would do

and i would love to help

@hey baby... i actually believe that this is the best route if you don't have a major purpose already in mind

many of us don't know what our purpose is

and praying to God and purging yourself of all the toxins that prevent you from functioning properly is a good start

and with all that dedication to getting the answers who knows you'll probably find them yourself without having to ask me lol

but you know i would help you in ANYTHING you were trying to do so that's not a problem lol

@queeny fantastic... it's so fresh and clean not clean and so fresh lol

good try though

@adionis... nice name lol

you can help to get the guys off the street by teaching them to make money in a legitamate way

there are so many ways of making money in this country but in order to know about them you have to study those strategies and use them

and i think your idea to buy books for kids is admirable

however i think that you should definately buy books made by us and for us

@rich... i agree with that lol

marcus garvey gave all of his money to the cause however he made sure he had a nice secluded spot for himself that was comfortable and free from distration

thanx

@fresh and fab... black americans used to always think about buying their parents a house when they get some money

you don't hear that too much anymore lol

@wuz up g... real estate is the way to go dawg

and make sure that beutiful chick got brains my brotha lol

@b-moe princess... lol

i would too lol

i don't know if i could take it

i would just be happy that i would really be in the position to do something for my people instead of just talking about the problems

@gurly... welcome

nice to meet you

i think that's admirable goal but make sure you have a watch dog monitoring your money because those administrators will try to take it

please come on back sometimes

@puddin pop... absolutely lol

you might try to front like you just some party girl who likes to have fun but i know you got brains miss puddin

you aint foolin me lol

@darkelcee... thanks for stopping by

no your not vain i'm just crazy lol

i'm very comfortabl just having the basics in life

most people aren't so spend but i do prescribe that you give to a worthy cause because it will make you feel good

@behaving... you really hate your job don't you lol

i hope if you ever get this you can through the peace sign and the bum up for them to kiss it lol

@the opposite of pop... you must love some red shoes

you remind me of dorthy in the wizard of oz lol

i would really like to read that book too

right after i write this i'm going to check it out

I wouldn't pay tithes to a church, since I don't belong to one, but I would give at least 10% to charities that do God's work (not necessarily Christian-affilated groups, but groups that are serious about issues of hunger, child abuse, homelessness, etc) and organizations close to my heart (the ASPCA, Habitat, Boys & Girls Clubs, local youth arts groups, some environmental groups).

I'd help my family members out with some things (but only immediate family, not every random 3rd cousin twice removed who comes knocking) and invest. Finally, I'd travel, buy a couple of rental properties, and write full time while working part time (since I'd be debt free).

Pay off all my debts, invest a big chunk in promoting my businesses, buy my brothers houses for them and their families. Put aside $$$ to educate my nieces and nephews.

Travel and see every inch of the world. Spend most of my days speaking various languages on beaches in beautiful places.

Donate to women, children and families in distress in various parts of the world.

And my favorite of all: Any Damn Thing I Feel! ;)

@nicky mississippi... you like my name lol

thought i wasn't going to respond didn't you

i see that was well thought out

put someone you trust in control of your charity money so they can make sure it goes straight to the source

and i would love to read your work

oh yeah you already write on your blog lol

@brittany... welcome 83

yeah i'm not original at all lol

your mother must be very special in your life

if you did this she would think you were a great daughter lol

@the diva of fitness... you are gonna need all of those languages especially if your gonna sell your services globally

better take some good courses

thanx for your comment

The Fitness Diva said...

I already have, and I already do! :)

As languages go, I can already speak 5, 3 quite fluently.
About 2 or 3 more, and then I'll go sit down for a minute. ;)
